How To Clean Troy Bilt Tb230 Carburetor

Owning any type of power equipment will require you to know some basic maintenance skills, including how to replace a broken or defective carburetor. In this article, we'll help you learn the steps of replacing a carburetor in a Troy-Bilt TB130 lawn mower.

1. Remove the air filter cover and air filter

Unsnap the outer air filter cover and pull it and the air filter away from the engine.

2. Remove the air filter base

Use a socket wrench to remove the two bolts on the air filter base, then disconnect the hose and pull the assembly away from the engine.

3. Turn off the fuel

To prevent fuel spilling out when removing the carburetor, twist the fuel valve (clockwise) to the 'off' position.

4. Remove the fuel line

Use a pair of needle-nose pliers to slide the hose clamp away from the grommet.

Then use fuel line pliers to pull the fuel line off of the carburetor.

5. Remove the throttle linkage

Rotate the carburetor to unhook the throttle linkage.

6. Remove the carburetor

The old carburetor should now be free to set aside or throw away.

Installing the Carburetor

1. Replace the throttle linkage

Thread the throttle linkage into the new carburetor.

2. Connect the fuel line to the carburetor

Use your fuel line pliers or your fingers to slide the fuel line back onto the carburetor.

Then use some needle-nose pliers to re-secure the hose clamp.

3. Replace any damaged/old gaskets

Before you install your new carburetor, you'll want to inspect each gasket and replace any that are damaged or cracked.

4. Reassemble the carburetor and air filter base

a) Slide the mounting bolts back through the air filter base.

b) Replace the breather tube to the air filter base.

c) Slide the air filter base gasket onto the mounting bolts.

d) Slide the new carburetor onto the mounting bolts.

e) Install the heat shield gasket onto the mounting bolts.

f) Slide the isolator and isolator gasket onto the mounting bolts.

5. Mount the carburetor and air filter base

Make sure the flap on the auto-choke system is placed on the right side of the top post on the carburetor.

Then use a socket wrench to re-secure the air filter base/carburetor assembly back to the engine.

6. Reinstall the air filter

Place the air filter into the air filter base.

7. Replace the air filter cover

Snap the air filter cover over the air filter to finalize this repair.
